Nagaon is a beach town on the shores of the Arabian Sea, in the North Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. It is located 9 km from Alibag and 114 km from Mumbai. Nagaon beach is popular mainly because of its cleanliness, water sport activities. The beach is around 3 km long.There are a few small hotels in Nagaon as the rest of the area is privately owned.Best option to stay here to stay in cottages owned by local people.
About a kilometre from the Alibaug Beach, in the coastal part of Alibaug is the Kolaba Fort. As the historical evidences, it is clear that this 25 ft high and 350 ft wide sea fort is built by Maratha warrior Shivaji Maharaj in the year 1680. Kolaba Fort is popular for the numerous battles held, between Siddis and the Marathas. Also, there are the evidences of the battles held between the Portuguese and the British.
Several ancient carving designs are at the entrance of the fort. Likewise, the entrance of the fort also includes sacred shrines of different Hindu gods and goddesses, especially the temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha built near the sweet water pond. The fort is own and maintain by an Archaeological Survey Department of India.
